Awaking one fine morning I flung back the curtains, rubbed the sleep from my eyes and decided it would be nice to have a slice or two of cakey loveliness to accompany my afternoon tea.
After the normal ablutions I hastened downstairs and checked the pantry. Hmmm... clearly a trip to the shops was in order.
Having pumped up the tyres of my rather aged bicycle, I mounted up and wobbled off to my favourite local retailer of comestibles; returning a little later having bought just the four things I needed: eggs, butter, sugar and flour. I can never make much sense of the different prices for these sorts of things, so while waiting for the tea to brew I perused the receipt with great interest.
It was all most perplexing. The eggs cost 21p more than the sugar, which in turn was 54p more than the butter - itself three times more expensive than the flour. To top matters off, the sugar and flour together cost £1.31 less than everything else put together.
Reflecting on this over a hobnob, it dawned on me that the cost of the ingredients could be related to the coordinates of my most recently hidden geocache… Taking a stub of pencil and an envelope, I worked out that if the total cost of ingredients was 'A' pence and the eggs cost 'B' pence more than the flour, then the hiding place of the cache could be calculated as N51º 46.(A - 222) W00º 24.(B - 150).
"Extraordinary" I exclaimed, and sent the butler off for another packet of hobnobs.
