Geocache Description:

The Ontario Highway Series is about the Province of Ontario's highway system, its development over the years and includes highways which have been or have had sections of those highways downloaded to various municipalities.

Ontario Provincial Highway # 59 ran from the entrance of Long Point Provincial Park on Lake Erie northward to Shakespeare located on highway # 7. The highway began in 1937 and ran for 43 miles between Delhi and Woodstock. Later the highway had various sections added to it and some route changes/alignments to reach a total of just over 122 miles in length. This included the renaming of what had been Highway 59 between Thamesford and St. Mary's to become part of Highway 19 from Highway 59 with the section of road between Woodstock and Shakesphere becoming known as Highway 59. Highway 59 was decommissioned in 1998 by the provincial government and was downloaded in its entirety to the counties along its route being Norfolk, Oxford and Perth. The roadway is known as County Road 59 in Norfolk and Oxford counties and as County Road 107 in Perth. In total Highway 59 was just under 123 miles in length at the time of its downloading.
