The Picnic - Pot Luck

Summer isn't officially over until September 22 this year, so let's make the most of it and have one last weekend picnic!  This outing is based on the Teddy Bear's Picnic (see "Earworm" below), so be prepared to have a wonderful time, eat marvelous things, and play and shout.

There is a pavilion in Chinguacousy Park at the posted coordinates that we will try to secure as a "base" for our picnic.  There are also picnic tables nearby. Please bring blankets and chairs and sun umbrellas and anything else pertinent to having a nice outdoor gathering.  Note that this will be a "rain or shine" event so dress appropriately!

Chinguacousy Park has lots of activities for everyone. Please take a look at the Related Web Page link in this listing for more information.

The TB Race - Can Your TB Go The Distance?

The Teddy Bear & Friends TB Race is going to be a year-long adventure.  Where will your traveler go?  Who will find it?  What wonderful stories and pictures will be posted about it?

This travel bug adventure is all about the teddy bears and their friends. You may enter as many trackables as you want, as long as they have no mileage on them and they are animal themed - real or imaginary!  So grab those plush little teddy bears, cute rubber duckies, wonderful dragons, or any other animal-themed traveler, slap a TB or Proxy tag on it, and let it loose to roam the world!

You can bring your TB to the event to register it, or you can get it to the organizers other ways (see below).  All race trackables must be received by September 16, 2017.  Shortly after the event, all of the race TBs will be taken to a far-away, undisclosed location where there they will begin their journey!

At the end of the race, an event will be held to hear about the adventures our travelers went on.  A prize for the longest distance traveled will be awarded...and perhaps a few other awards too!

Rules
  • all racers must have a Geocaching registered trackable number
  • the racer must be a TB tag/number attached to an animal (real or imaginary); Travel Bug tags or Proxy Tags are recommended (Geocoins are not recommended as they tend to go missing)
  • once the race has begun, the trackable owner cannot move their own TBs (cannot have it in their inventory, retrieve it, drop it, grab it) and may not manipulate the movement (e.g. arranging for another cacher to take the trackable, etc.)
  • the trackable must have zero mileage at the start of the race; to ensure no mileage you can lock the TB before the race, but make sure to unlock it before putting the TB into the race event
  • please include a picture of your TB on it's page as the default image

How To Get Your Travel Bugs Into The Race

This race is open to all Geocachers, near and far! To participate in this TB race your traveler must be registered on Geocaching.com.  Follow the normal process to activate and set up your TB, then get it to the race organizers in one of the following ways.  Please "drop" your racer into this event cache listing (regardless of which option below you use) to start their journey.

  • bring your racer to the Teddy Bear & Friends Picnic and leave it at the Registration Table
  • give them to DougyB or PKarin in person by September 16, 2017; please contact the organizers to arrange drop-off
  • send your TB racer via mail; it must be received by the organizers by September 16, 2017

Earworm

If you go down in the woods today
You're sure of a big surprise
If you go down in the woods today
You'd better go in disguise!

For every bear that ever there was
Will gather there for certain
Because today's the day the
Teddy Bears have their picnic

Picnic time for Teddy Bears
The little Teddy Bears are having
A lovely time today
Watch them, catch them unawares
And see them picnic on their holiday

See them gaily gad about
They love to play and shout
They never have any cares
At six o'clock their Mommies and Daddies
Will take them home to bed
Because they're tired little Teddy Bears

Every Teddy Bear who's been good
Is sure of a treat today
There's lots of marvelous things to eat
And wonderful games to play

Beneath the trees where nobody sees
They'll hide and seek as long as they please
'Cause that's the way the
Teddy Bears have their picnic

Picnic time for Teddy Bears
The little Teddy Bears are having
A lovely time today
Watch them, catch them unawares
And see them picnic on their holiday

See them gaily gad about
They love to play and shout
They never have any cares
At six o'clock their Mommies and Daddies
Will take them home to bed
Because they're tired little Teddy Bears
Because they're tired little Teddy Bears
