Aare on pühendatud Emmaste kiriku 150. aastapäevaks. Kirik valmis 1867. aastal. Kiriku eelkäija oli Sõru kabel, mis Emmaste kirikukihelkonna tekkimise ajaks 1866, oli tarvitamiskõlbmatuks muutunud.
