Dit was de baai voor de directeuren van de Nederlandse oliemaatschappij Shell op het eiland. Er waren netten aangebracht tegen haaien als een extra veiligheidsmaatregel. De resten hiervan kun je nog zien boven en onder water.
Toen de raffinaderij in het midden van Willemstad nog in het bezit van de Shell was mochten alleen de directieleden op dit strand komen. Maar de Shell is al lang vertrokken, en het kleine strandje is nu open voor iedereen. Toch komt er bijna niemand.
In 1915 kwam Shell op Curaçao en heeft vooral tijdens WOII zeer veel geld verdiend. Meer dan de helft van de brandstof voor de geallieerde troepen kwam van de Antillen. In het verjagen van de toenmalige vijand waren de Antillen dus een economisch en strategisch dankbaar onderdeel van het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden.
in 1985 verkocht Shell de olieraffinaderij aan Curaçao tegen het symbolische bedrag van 1 gulden.
This was the bay for the directors of the Dutch oil company Shell on the island. Nets were applied as an additional safety measure against sharks. The remains of these nets can still be seen above and below the water.
When the refinery in the center of Willemstad was still in Shell's possession, only the members of the board could come to this beach. But Shell has left for a long time ago, and the little beach is now open for everyone. Nevertheless, almost nobody goes here to the beach.
In 1915 Shell came to Curacao and earned a lot of money especially during World War II. More than half of the fuel for allied troops came from the Antilles. For the chasing of the enemy then, the Antilles were an economically and strategically grateful part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
In 1985 Shell sold the oil refinery to Curacao for the symbolic amount of 1 guilders.
