Created in 1953 Pembina River Provincial Park is located in the Boreal Forest ecosystem. The river flows through the centre of the park and provides a diverse riparian habitat to a wide variety of plant and animal species.
The park has a rich history. The Woodland Cree were the first known inhabitants of the Pembina River area. The river was a vital source which allowed the tribes to flourish by harvesting a stable supply of fish, hunting moose and deer who drank from the river, and trapping beavers that lived on the banks.
Today, the park has numerous scenic hiking trails, close river access, campgrounds and a park area that make it a popular weekend spot.
