This cache has an interesting history, at least to me. The story is as follows…Names and Geocaching handles have been changed to protect the deranged and brilliant.
Interestingly enough, this cache started off in the front yard of a local town. The cacher, Militescriste. Really a lone cacher, who dragged his muggle family along more times than they care to count.
After creating a geocaching monster by inviting him along on one trip, named McFlashing, one of Militescriste’s friends and now his caching partner, the two with Mili’s wife and McFlashing’s son headed to South of the Border to pick up the Sombrero geo-art (first time). While there, they experienced a WVTim's birdhouse cache. This was enough to whet the appetite of Militescriste.
Fast forward to 1/02/2016 and the creation of GC692H2 “Pushing the Birds Around”. With the creation of this cache, the owner, Militescriste, wanted to test the survivability of the cache container that he built by hand, so he placed it in his front yard. The cacher’s who came to find it were respectful, friendly and some would even stop to chat from time to time. This cache had suffered one problem, the design had made it a host for hundreds of millipedes that would fall out on the cacher who got it open. This had to be solved before anything else could be done. On 6/20/2016 “Pushing the Birds Around” was archived for corrections to the container and a move to a more inconspicuous place.
Two months later, 8/03/2016, an improved container with similar entry expectations was created and placed, GC6PKHV “Writing Poems is for the Birds” was born. Then the problems began to surface. Impatient and irresponsible people posing as geocachers had decided that instead of following the instructions, they would just bust the container that I had spent so long building. On 11/24/2016, I disabled it for repairs and discovering that the damage was bad enough that I would have to start over from scratch and this one disappeared on 2/28/2017.
This one sat in my workshop for about 4 months. I was frustrated with people claiming to be cachers who destroy or steal others property. What could I do to make this more…difficult to damage without altering the experience? Always a tough question. Oddly enough, in the baby section of a local store, I found my answer (or what I thought was my answer). So, repairs made, on 7/18/2017 this cache had a new birth as GC793HC “Poking Tweety”.
It lasted about 4 months, and then the bandits strike again. Another broken container. My frustration level was so high I was ready to pull someone’s eyes out of their sockets.
Well, its 3/3/2018 and the latest version of this cache has been born. There are no more mechanisms to be figured out and broken. Just a simple lock that you need to discover the code to be able to open. Good luck to you.
