A produção de farinha, açúcar e outros produtos era levada com carros de bois, por meio de picadas até o depósito de João Olinger, em Óleo Grande. Rafel Berti era um comerciante que fornecia gêneros aos moradores e estes pagavam na época das safras.
Por volta de 1940, Antônio Pereira, Martinho, João e José Ferreira, Eugênio Miranda, Pedro Laurentino Luz, Amaro Pereira, Antônio Roncáglio e outras pessoas abriram as picadas e fizeram a estrada entre a estrada Barracão-Ilhota e a estrada municipal de Gaspar que chegava até as terras de Augusto Schramm. Também nesta época funcionavam duas serrarias no Macucos: uma da família Berti e outra de Augusto Schramm.
Hoje, a Capela Santo Agostinho e a Escola Augusto Schramm centralizam a atenção da comunidade que muito deve aos pioneiros pelo espírito de trabalho e religiosidade, que ainda hoje é vivido neste lugar.
