The Fransaskois flag's golden background symbolizes the wheat fields of southern Saskatchewan. Most of the French-speaking pioneers settled in rural communities and made their living from the land.
Green represents the forests of the north. The fleur-de-lis represents French heritage. The form of this particular fleur-de-lis is based on the one seen on the flag of the 1885 Metis provisional government. Red represents the determination of the Fransaskois to retain their language.
This flag was declared an official symbol of the Province of Saskatchewan in 2005.
A Fransaskois flag and a commemorative plaque were presented to the community of Ferland by the Saskatchewan Government to highlight the Francophone character of the village.

Le drapeau fransaskois arbore trois couleurs. Le fond jaune symbolise les champs de blé du sud et du centre de la Saskatchewan. Un grand nombre de pionniers francophones qui sont venus s’établir en Saskatchewan étaient des cultivateurs.
La croix verte représente la forêt du nord de la province. La fleur de lys représente la francophonie. Elle est inspirée de la forme graphique du drapeau du gouvernement provisoire métis de 1885. Le rouge rend hommage au courage des Fransaskois et des Fransaskoises qui luttent pour leur langue, leur culture et leurs droits.
Depuis 2005, ce drapeau est reconnu par la province comme étant un de ses symboles officiels.
Un drapeau fransaskois ainsi qu’une plaque commémorative ont été remis à la communauté de Ferland par le gouvernement de la Saskatchewan afin de souligner l’aspect francophone du village.
