The town of Independence is bisected by Highway 395 but holds so much history so if you have the time take a moment to stop and enjoy it. The Manzanar Historical Sight is located south of Independence and is worth a look. Many of the homes in Independence used lumber from Manzanar bunkers when the camp was closed. The Independence Court House is located in the middle of town and Mary Austin's home (author of "Land of Little Rain") is just down the street from there. On July 3, 2017 a non-profit group re-incorporated the Carson and Colorado Railway and have restored locomotive #18, The "Slim Princess", to working order and she steamed along on 300 feet of track. She now sits at the Eastern California Museum near here. This cache is placed to bring you here and give you a chance to stop and enjoy the area. Bring your own writing stick to sign the log.
You do not have to enter the cemetery to find the cache.
