Geocache Description:

Hidden in Monte Cristo, a gold mining town of the 1890's. Be sure to pick up a copy of the historical places brochure either at the trailhead off Hwy 92 or in the townsite.

Monte Cristo is located at the end of a four mile road which can be traveled by foot, bike, or horseback. At the time we placed the cache we biked in and there was some rather rough rocky terrain as well as two smaller creeks to ride through. But our party included four kids (all under 8), two of whom biked and two who were lucky enough to be towed in bike trailers, and we all made it fine.

The map mentioned above is helpful for finding your way around the town and might even help you locate the cache site. GPS coverage is spotty due to tree cover but is good near the cache.

UPDATE 9/1/2009: Thanks to the help of Logan_six, the cache has been upgraded to an ammo can and moved (coordinates have been updated).

Head up the Silver Lake trail to just past the Boston-American concentrator sign. The cache is located just to the right of the trail. There is absolutely NO reason to walk on or even approach the remains of the concentrator. However, this location offers a great view of the concentrator area.
