LCRA and TXDOT trucks drive down past the guardrail regularly. But don’t do it if we’ve had a lot of rain. Since I live near here, I come on my E-bike. The last few feet will involve bushwhacking.
King Ferdinand III was king of Spain in the 1200s. A patron of the church and education, besides joining the Franciscan order, he was skilled diplomatically and militarily and in a 21 year reign unified Castille and Leone and other parts of Spain. He was canonized as St. Ferdinand by Pope Clement X in 1671.
Cities, cathedrals, rivers, et al are named for him, most notably for Texas history, the cathedral in San Antonio near the Alamo, and Camp San Fernando on the other San Fernando Creek in Kleberg County.
