Geocache Description:

This mostly dry creek is one of at least 3 in Texas named San Fernando, and is probably the least important geographically and historically.  It has been prospected for silver and gold.  Doesn’t look like much, but it’s actually 25.5 miles long, mostly in Llano County, and meets the Llano River just south of here.

LCRA and TXDOT trucks drive down past the guardrail regularly. But don’t do it if we’ve had a lot of rain. Since I live near here, I come on my E-bike. The last few feet will involve bushwhacking.

King Ferdinand III was king of Spain in the 1200s.  A patron of the church and education, besides joining the Franciscan order, he was skilled diplomatically and militarily and in a 21 year reign unified Castille and Leone and other parts of Spain.  He was canonized as St. Ferdinand by Pope Clement X in 1671.

Cities, cathedrals, rivers, et al are named for him, most notably for Texas history, the cathedral in San Antonio near the Alamo, and Camp San Fernando on the other San Fernando Creek in Kleberg County.  http://www.stxmaps.com/go/texas-historical-marker-camp-san-fernando.html
