Imponente e com a finalidade de nortear e convidar a comunidade a subir a escadaria e entrar na Catedral São Paulo Apóstolo A estrutura, que virou cartão-postal da cidade e pode ser vista de diversos ângulos, tem 45 metros de altura e foi totalmente construída com blocos de granito rosa com de aproximadamente 150 quilos.
Inaugurada dia 1º de junho de 1963, dois anos e nove meses após o início da construção, a estrutura foi erguida com o esforço braçal dos operários.
Com a obra terminada, foram colocados os três sinos e a cruz feita com três blocos de pedra.
