Massa Marittima is a town and comune of the province of Grosseto, southern Tuscany, Italy, 49 km NNW of Grosseto. There are mineral springs, mines of iron, mercury, lignite and copper, with foundries, ironworks and olive-oil mills. At Follonica, on the coast, are the furnaces in which are smelted the iron ore of Elba. The town appeared in the early Middle Ages, the bishopric seat of Populonia being moved here around 1000 AD. After the initial domination of the Republic of Pisa, it became an independent commune in the 13th century. In the following century it was conquered by Siena, to which it belonged until it became part of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany in the mid-16th century. (wikipedia)
[CZ] Jsme kačeři z České republiky. V červnu se nacházíme v krásné Toskánské krajině. Máme rádi kešky a geokešing. Proto vás zveme na společné večerní setkání ve městě Massa Marittima. Těšíme se na vás a máme pro vás dárečky ve formě dřevěných koinů. Speciálně pro toto setkání IWG "Massa Marittima".
Půvabné městečko zamrzlé ve středověku. Románské a gotické stavby, úzké uličky, zdobná náměstí i dechberoucí výhledy musí okouzlit každého. Massa Marittima, stejně jako většina toskánských měst, prošla dlouhým vývojem a užila si své. Absolvovala nadvládu Pisy, což se neomylně odráží ve fasádě katedrály San Cerbone, vyvedené v pisánsko–románském stylu. Prožila období rozkvětu a samostatnosti (1225 – 1335), kdy byla samostatnou republikou. A pěkně bohatou! Vždyt se zde těžily kovy. Městečko se totiž nachází v Kovonosném pohoří – Colline Metallifere. Posléze Massu převálcovala Siena, také Florencie, a korunu tomu všemu nasadila morová rána v roce 1348. Ta Massu téměř vylidnila a možná právě jí vděčíme tomu, že město zůstalo zakonzervováno ve stavu, který dnes tak obdivujeme. (adventura.cz)
