Church Micro 10870...Sleaford Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Calligmathy: We did replace the cache in early November but it seems to have disappeared again almost immediately. The frequency of cache removal suggest that someone is deliberately taking it.

We may revive this cache again using a different hiding place, but in the meantime we have to bid it a fond goodbye.

Geocache Description:

A cache in the Church Micro series. The cache is an offset cache hidden a short distance from the church.

Sleaford Methodist Church

Sleaford Methodist Church

The building that you see now was officially opened on the 8th July 1972.

This replaced an earlier church that had been opened on the 28th September 1848, which had been built on the site of the former Falcon Inn. At that time Northgate was regarded by some as Sleaford’s ‘red light district’.

Unfortunately, in 1966 the building was declared unsafe and worship moved to the schoolroom behind the church. The church was demolished in 1969 and then fund raising began in earnest. By January 1971 plans had finally been approved, and construction began in September, with the church being opened the following July.

There had been one major obstacle to overcome. In the way of the new foundations were three burials; those of Thomas Fawcett the founder of Methodism in Sleaford, his wife Elizabeth, and their friend Cornelius Greenwood a local preacher. Fortunately, permission was given to move their remains to Sleaford Cemetery where they were buried on the 18th September 1969.

This is an offset cache. The cache is not to be found at the above co-ordinates, but you will need to visit those co-ordinates to find the location of the cache.

To the right of the W.C. there are some letters. You know the usual way to turn letters into numbers, don’t you? Well then, the co-ordinates for the final cache are

N 53 (16th minus 10th) (18th minus 1st) point (24th minus 17th) (18th) (8th)

W 000 (14th) (5th) point (4th) (1st) (12th)

There is no obvious nearby parking. Tesco is only 5 minutes walk away and has free parking (including non-customers) for up to 3 hours.

It is perhaps best to avoid late afternoons (after school) for this cache due to the high concentration of adolescent muggles in the area.

The difficulty rating of 2 represents the small degree of observation and brain power needed in calculating the final co-ordinates.
