Geocache Description:

** Temporarily Disabled - soon to be archived ** See below for more detail ** See log today about my final attempt to contact the cacher who logged the find back in 2016. ** A mesozoic adventure north of the arctic circle.

In January 2017, a geocacher posted a find for this cache and notified us by message that he removed the cache and its contents (it was meant to be a one-time find). We dropped the ball on the email follow-up, so we are still waiting for some photos for confirmation, but it's most likely the case that the cache and its contents are gone. We know this one was a great dream for many, and when we placed it many years ago, in our more adventurous days, we only had a slight idea just how massively amazing this location truly is. Maybe we should turn it into a virtual cache - possibly a multi stage of the rafting trip we took. Everyone should experience this type of adventure to realize what the world is like when you turn off all screens (except your GPSr and maybe a satellite phone). I'll Disable this for now, maybe archive it or change to virtual in the future. The cache contains one item - a travel bug that is trying to find its way home to Mesozoic One, a cache near Boston, MA. Toothy the Travel bug is hoping to see as much of the country (world) as possible on his way home from Alaska. The coordinates for this cache will bring you to Bettles, AK, where you will find a film canister with the coordinates for the actual cache, which is hidden 60 miles up the North Fork of the Koyukuk River. The cache is only reachable by floating down the Koyukuk and taking a short hike up from a gravel bar. Please do not remove the film canister unless you are heading up the North Fork of the Koyukuk. If you are going this way, you should bring the hint that is encrypted below, just in case the film canister is missing. The coordinates of the main cache are included in the hint. You will need to charter a flight from Bettles to find this cache. This is a week long float trip requiring extensive gear, knowledge of backcountry camping, wilderness survival skills, rafting experience, and a lot of bug spray. If/when someone finds this cache, please bring a small log book for future cachers to sign. I did not include a log book because I had initially planned this to be a one-time only cache. However, as the administrator pointed out, it's not fair if only one person gets to find this cache, so please leave the cache where it is after you find it. We placed this cache long before there was a rule against placing caches when traveling. On the off chance there is a local person who would like to maintain this cache, please let me know. The cache is in a great location, but I regret placing it in a location where I cannot maintain it.
