Il ponte degli Scalzi a Venezia è, assieme al Ponte di Rialto, al Ponte dell'Accademia e al Ponte della Costituzione, uno dei quattro ponti che attraversano il Canal Grande. È detto anche ponte della stazione o della ferrovia a causa della vicinanza della stazione ferroviaria di Santa Lucia. Un primo ponte fu realizzato nel 1858 dall'ingegnere inglese Alfred Neville sotto la dominazione asburgica, per migliorare l'accesso alla stazione ferroviaria recentemente costruita. Si trattava di un ponte in ghisa a struttura rettilinea, molto simile a quello eretto pochi anni prima dallo stesso Neville all'Accademia. L'altezza limitata (4 metri) impediva il passaggio di imbarcazioni alberate e lo stile dichiaratamente "industriale" mal si conciliava esteticamente con le strutture circostanti.
Purtroppo la ghisa inoltre cominciò dopo pochi anni a dare segni di cedimento strutturale in alcuni punti, per cui il Comune di Venezia fu costretto nei primi anni trenta a prendere una rapida decisione riguardo alla sua sostituzione.
Il ponte in metallo venne pertanto sostituito da un nuovo ponte a singola arcata interamente in pietra d'Istria, su progetto dell'ingegnere Eugenio Miozzi (1889-1979). I lavori di costruzione iniziarono il 4 maggio 1932 e il ponte fu inaugurato appena due anni dopo, il 28 ottobre 1934.
„Ma perché "degli scalzi"? Perché si affaccia sulla chiesa di Santa Maria di Nazareth, in cui la messa, per molti secoli, fu officiata dall'ordine dei carmelitani scalzi.“

The Bridge of the Scalzi in Venice is, along with the Rialto Bridge, at the Accademia Bridge and at the Bridge of the Constitution, one of the four bridges that cross the Grand Canal. It is also called railway station or rail bridge due to the proximity of Santa Lucia train station. A first bridge was built in 1858 by the English engineer Alfred Neville under Habsburg domination, to improve access to the newly built railway station. It was a straight-to-iron cast iron bridge, much like the one erected few years earlier by Neville himself at the Academy. The limited height (4 meters) prevented the passage of tree-lined boats and the "industrial" style badly matched aesthetically with the surrounding structures.
Unfortunately, cast iron also started to show signs of structural decline in a few years, and the Venice Commune was forced to make a quick decision about its replacement in the early thirties.
The metal bridge was therefore replaced by a new single-arch bridge, entirely in stone of Istria, designed by engineer Eugenio Miozzi (1889-1979). The construction work began on May 4, 1932 and the bridge was inaugurated just two years later, on October 28, 1934.
But why barefoot?
Because it overlooks the church of Santa Maria di Nazareth, where the Mass for many centuries was officiated by the order of the "Carmelites Scalzi".
