Geocache Description:

This is the location referred to at cache GC6YY61. Protesters Helipad. But when you get here you realise that it is so much more then a spot to put a helipad.

The cache is hidden at the rocks at the summit, about a 15 minute walk from the road. When at the summit, behind you is where they tried to build the Helipad, In front of you are rocky outcrops, that have a plant that grows no where else on earth. But i couldn't remember what it was and where exactly it was. So I put the cache at the lookout point, so please ensure it is properly rehidden, to reduce its chance of discovery.

But WHAT ABOUT THE VIEW? In the valley is the Brodribb Wilderness. There are very few patches of even sized trees to indicate past logging activity. Then onto the Mountains. Around to the right is Mt Delegate with the big tower on top. In the mornings you can usually see Mt Kosciousko, before sun glare reduces visibility. You can also see much of the Snowy River national Park. The Gelantipy Range and Mt. Tingaringy.

In most of the Errinundra series of caches, logging gets a mention. Look at the tree structure in the wilderness valley below you (with few logging areas) and compare looking to the right towards Delegate Hill with the huge mass of even sized trees in the logging frontiers. You can find more info at GC74QPY.

When placing this cache, track maintenance hadn't happened for a while, but having done the track many times, I was able to follow it reasonably comfortably, using a gap where the larger Alpine Ash trees are no longer. In 1984 a track was bulldozed up here for the construction of the helipad. The large trees haven't returned, but the small trees and shrubs have, increasing the risk that you could loose sight of the track. Depending on track maintenance, this could be a simple walk or worth the full terrain 4 it is given.

There are very wet picnic tables at the start of the track. I don't really think you would want to use them.

There is limited phone reception at the summit.

Please ensure you have read the safety messages for Errinundra 1 - GC6YY60 before attempting these caches.
