Isle (Isla en occitan) est la 4e ville du département en nombre d'habitants, après Limoges, Saint-Junien et Panazol.
Isle était une seigneurie ecclésiastique appartenant aux évêques de Limoges. Le château des évêques qui était à côté de l'église a été démoli pendant la Révolution. Le poète limousin Jean Rebier « Majoral du Félibrige » (1879-1966) et l'écrivain Robert Margerit (1910-1988) ont vécu ici.
Pendant la Révolution, la paroisse devient une commune. Celle-ci perd, en 1792, environ le quart de sa superficie par la création, dans la partie de son territoire au sud de la Vienne, de la commune de Bosmie-L'Aiguille.

This geocache is a part of the " HV tour, 200 municipalities of the Haute-Vienne " (an idea from AirV).
Isle (Isla in Occitan) is the 4th city of the department in number of inhabitants, after Limoges, Saint-Junien and Panazol.
Isle was an ecclesiastical seigneury belonging to the bishops of Limoges. The castle of the bishops which was next to the church was demolished during the Revolution.
The poet Jean Rebier " Majoral du Félibrige " ( 1879-1966 ) and the writer Robert Margerit ( 1910-1988 ) lived here.
During the Revolution, the parish becomes a municipality. This one loses, in 1792, approximately the quarter of its surface by the creation of the municipality of Bosmie-L'Aiguille, in the part of its territory in the South of river Vienne.
