TRADITIONAL MAY BREAKFAST
Monday, May 1st, 2017, 10 am - 11 am
Oak Lawn Community Baptist Church
229 Wilbur Ave, Cranton, Rhode Island
celebrating the 150th anniversary at
the Home of the original May Breakfast
May Breakfast has been a unique Rhode Island tradition since 1867 with communities getting together to break bread and discuss their plans for the emerging season. Some towns typically observe May 1st, similar to the English May Day, while others celebrate on May 4th, Rhode Island’s day of Independence from British rule, and some use the days in between.
On Monday, May 1, 2017, at about 10:30am we will meet and eat, however the breakfast for community starts earlier at 6am, but we as a group are targeting for the last seating sometime after 10am and to be served, you must be in the doors before 11am. The menu includes eggs, ham, cornbread, clam cakes, beverage, and homemade apple pie, served family style. Adults $7; children 12 and under $4.
The morning event will be held at Oak Lawn Community Baptist Church, 229 Wilbur Avenue, Cranston RI,. This is considered the Home of the original May Breakfast and is celebrating their 150th Anniversary.
It is centrally located just off I-295 at Route 37 West, then south on Natick Ave, left on Wilbur. Parking may require the use of surrounding side streets, so be prepared to walk a few blocks.
Since previous years events have been such a success at various venues around the State, we are keeping the tradition going this year by returning to where it all began, http://www.olcbaptistchurch.com/
