Forging Ahead! Piecing Together the Past #7 Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

OReviewer: As there's been no cache to find for a long time or has had no owner response for at least 30 days, I'm archiving it to keep it from showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

Please note that if geocaches are archived by a reviewer or Geocaching HQ for lack of maintenance, they are not eligible for unarchival.

Geocache Description:

Although this cache had to be relocated off site due to proximity issues with GCAEBB, the history is still an interesting story and the site is worth a visit! In August of 1840 William Henry,Seldon and George Scranton and Stanford Grant noted abundant outcroppings of coal and iron ore while prospecting in the Nay Aug Ravine, the wealth of raw material prompted them to purchase 503 acres in the area, and by September they had begun construction of a blast furnace, marking the birth of industry in Scranton.  At the time the area, known as Slocum Hollow contained only a schoolhouse, gristmill, sawmill, cooper shop, the slocum house and five dwellings.  For more information, please visit the website at: http://www.anthracitemuseum.org/explore/iron-furnaces/
