National Museum of Natural History of Angola (Museu Nacional de História Natural de Angola)
The Museu Nacional de História Natural de Angola (National Museum of Natural History of Angola) is located in Largo do Kinaxixe, in the city of Luanda, Angola. It was established in 1938 as the Museu de Angola, and was originally housed in the Fortress of São Miguel, initially with departments of Ethnography, History, Zoology, Botany, Geology, Economics and Art. A library and colonial history archive was added. In 1956 it moved to its current 3-storey building, and it today features a large collection related to the country's natural history and rich and varied fauna. The museum features spacious lounges, which contains stuffed specimens of mammals, fish, whales, insects, reptiles and birds.
The museum is often closed unexpectedly because of power failures. If you want to make sure it's open, call them first (phone: +244 921 360 872). The official opening times are:
- Tuesday till Friday 09:00-13:00 and 14:30-17:00
- Saturday, Sunday and Holidays: 10:00-17:00
The entrance fee is only 100 Kwanza (but it is not necessary to go into the museum to get the cache!)
The cache is a yellow "egg" from the "Kinder Überraschung" chocolate eggs (Kinder Surprise)... Do NOT try to do this cache after sunset!! It's a quiet area and you might be looking for trouble in darkness... During daytime it's safe... GOOD LUCK!!! (BYOP!)
During daytime, there might be some people close-by, just sitting on the side of the road. Look around and pick the right time to go for the grab! You could also be standing next to the sign, pretending to make a picture and then negligently go for the grab... Use STEALTH!!
