Magnetism is a physical phenomenon by which a material exerts attractive or repulsive forces on other materials. There are a number of well known materials which display magnetic properties such as cobalt, iron, and nickel. Magnetism is ultimately derived from electric charges in motion.
The word magnetism stems from Magnesia in Turkey where magnetic materials were first found.
“Nano” is a metric prefix that precedes a basic unit of measure to indicate a fraction of the unit. The nano-prefix has a unique symbol, n, that is placed immediately before the unit symbol, let’s say m for meter. Accordingly, a nano meter would be written nm which equals 0,000 000 001 m.
How small is a nm? it is very hard to illustrate but to give you a hunch; a human hair has a diameter of about 100 000 nm.
