Geocache Description:

This building is the new home of St Michael's Church, opened in September 2014. This making it one of the newest church buildings in the City. The original church was situated on Burleigh Road, Dines Green. That building has since been demolished to make way for new housing as part of a £12 million rejuvenation project of Dines Green.

The 1960's housing development of Dines Green is on the west side of the city adjacent to St John's. A new parish was created in 1967 and a new church built at that time. Structural problems occurred in the early years of the 21st century and this led to the demolishing of the old church and the consecration of this new church.

On Friday 8th April 2016, Robin Walker, MP for Worcester, joined the Mayor of Worcester Roger Knight and hundreds of Dines Green residents to mark the official completion of the area’s regeneration. Robin said, "It is particularly welcome news that a new church was built, as in the original plans, residents were worried about the idea that their church could be moved into the community centre. Together with local residents, I made representations to both Worcester Community Housing and the diocese about the future of St Michael’s and the provision of suitable facilities for weddings, christenings and funerals. It was a real pleasure to visit Worcester’s newest church and to see how it supports the strong community in Dines Green.”

The new church also houses a bell brought from the demolished church of St Giles in Lulsley, which had been kept in the old St Michael's Church. Mr Jones, of St Johns, originally came from Lulsley and attended St Giles before moving to Worcester, "I attended services there, was christened and even married there. The church was knocked down for housing, but I saved its church bell and put it in the old St Michaels' Church. That bell is now featured in the new church, which is lovely. St Michael's means so much to me as I have such strong links with it, as do a lot of people in this area. It's an important church."

The parishes of St John-in-Bedwardine, St Clement with St David and St Michael, Dines Green work closely together across West Worcester.
