Geocache Description:

Building Bridges To Sydney

Sydney, Australia

Sydney was the first city in Australia and is located in the state of New South Wales on the eastern side of the continent. It began in 1788 when eleven sailing ships, known as “The First Fleet”, sailed into the magnificent Sydney Harbor, after a very difficult six-month voyage half way round the world, carrying more than 1480 men, women and children, the rejects from England’s overcrowded jails. From those humble beginnings as a convict penal settlement, Sydney has grown to become a major international city. Each year, visitors from all over the world travel “Down-Under” to see for themselves Sydney’s famous icons of the Sydney Harbor Bridge and the unusually designed, Sydney Opera House, as well as experience Sydney’s fabulous beaches, its unique animals, the wonderful climate and, of course, its very friendly people. Put a visit to Sydney on your bucket list and when you get there, don’t forget to say “G’day”!!
This is a five stage multicache that will require you to team up with a geocacher from Sydney. To find a geomate, simply write a note on the reciprocal geocache in Sydney, or respond to a note that has been placed on this cache listing. At WP1 (published coordinates) here in Pittsburgh, you will search for something that will give you coordinates for WP2 in Sydney. With those coordinates, you will also discover a clue word. Email both the coordinates and the clue word from WP1 to your geomate in Sydney. Similarly, your geomate will go to their WP1 in Sydney and find a set of coordinates for WP2 here in Pittsburgh and a clue word that you will use to discover the final location in Pittsburgh. Your geomate will email you both the coordinates and the clue word. Continue this process of exchanging coordinates and clue words until you have four clue words each. At WP4, you will discover a clue word only, no coordinates. Tip - all waypoints use the same format to give you the information you seek. Each stage is hidden differently.

Using the code A = 26, B = 25...Z =1, convert each clue (you get from your geomate) to a value by adding together the numbers that correspond to the letters in that word, i.e. BICYCLE = 25+18+24+2+24+15+22=130. Add together the values of the four clue words. We' ll call this total "Zulu". Using the same alphabet to number code, you will convert the third clue word to obtain another value. We’ll call this total “Xray”. Lastly, you will use the same code to convert the fourth clue word. This total will be “Yinz”. Complete the following calculations to reveal the whereabouts of the Pittsburgh cache final location.

N 40° (Xray - 114).(Zulu + 147)

W (Yinz + 7862).(Zulu + 435)

Don't forget to take some photos to send to your geomate. I'm sure they would love to see where you have been. Please don't post any spoiler photos that would give away any hide locations here in Pittsburgh.
***Please note - only geocachers who actually visit GZ and physically sign the log themselves here in Pittsburgh are eligible to claim a find on this geocache.***
Enjoy the hunt!
