Ce petit square situé en bord de méditerranée dans le village du Barcarès rend hommage à la fois au comédien Robert Castel (de son vrai nom Robert Moyal) et aux pieds noirs arrivés dans la région catalane à compter de 1962. L'inauguration de ce lieu a eu lieu en sa présence le 17 novembre 2012 à l’occasion de l’hommage de la commune aux Français rapatriés d’Algérie, 50 ans après l’exode… Acteur et humoriste, Robert Castel est un monument du cinéma et de la télévision française. Considéré comme l'inventeur du "style pied-noir", l'homme est né en 1933 à Bab-El-Oued. A cette occasion, il dira aux journalistes: "On ne quitte pas un pays en buvant du champagne... J'ai fait beaucoup de choses en Algérie. J'ai notamment été instituteur et journaliste. J'ai aussi joué au football. Je garde un souvenir douloureux de cet exil. Tous les chagrins s'appellent absence. Nous étions également angoissés à l'idée de savoir quel accueil la patrie, qui n'a pas toujours été une mère pour nous, allait nous réserver..............", puis: "La France m'a donné tout ce que j'ai.
