An earworm is a song that gets stuck in your head and for whatever reason, stays there for extended periods of time. I find they afflict me most frequently when I am doing some kind of physical exercise, like running, gardening or... geocaching! While some people may find it annoying to be constantly humming the same tune over and over, usually it is those around us that suffer most. But after a few repetitions of your earworm song, they may find themselves also infected with the piece.
This multi cache is a tribute to one particular earworm that I often have in my head while out hiking in the mountains. Each of the four stages has a part of the lyrics to this song, and I think a good portion of you will be able to recognize it, and may find yourselves humming it as you progress. But I'm not just trying to spread my earworm to geocachers. I also would love to know about what songs get stuck in your head as you are out caching. The final was created in order for geocachers everywhere to share their earworms. To make sure you can participate properly, bring two AAA batteries with you. And please read the instructions in the final carefully.
The hike begins at the Atalaya trailhead at St. Johns college and winds up to one of the local peaks. The stages provide the needed waypoints for the route, which is partially on well maintained trails, and partially on smaller "casual trails". The round trip hiking distance is about 3 miles with 700 ft elevation gain. Sturdy footwear and plenty of water (especially in the warmer months) is recommended.
