Geocache Description:

Cache is NOT at the posted coordinates, solve the puzzle below to obtain the final coordinates. Puzzle is in the yellow box.
Lava flows are streams of molten rock that pour or ooze from an erupting vent. Lava is erupted during either nonexplosive activity or explosive lava fountains. This cache is on city-owned property and was placed with permission from geocaching.com.

Tri-Cities 2017 Geocoin Challenge
Fire & Ice of the Mid-Columbia

Travel around Tri-Cities (including West Richland) to find 28 of the 32 geocaches (7 out of 8 per city) to earn a set of 4 geocoins. No partial coin sets will be distributed.
All the caches have code words or paper punches.
You must also have a geocache account to receive your geocoin.
Coins will NOT be awarded to pets or to children 10 and under.
Passport must be INTACT and completed to receive your coins.
Kids (12 and under) who complete the challenge the weekend of the event will receive a prize.
To receive your coins, return your completed passport to Sacajawea State Park on Saturday, June 24, 2:00-8:00pm and Sunday, June 25, 9:00am-12:00pm.

TC 2017 R03 - Leslie Groves Lava Flow

About 12 000 to 18 000 years ago, at this location you would have been under several hundred feet of water. Cataclysmic floods occured several dozen times: water from Glacial Lake Missoula in western Montana broke an ice dam and ran all the way through eastern Washington to accumulate here in the Tri-Cities area as Wallula Gap (located a couple dozen mile downstream Richland on the Columbia river) limited the amount of water that could run further through the Columbia Gorge towards the Pacific Ocean.
The puzzle below is a map of the Tri-Cities area that will give you an idea of the size of Lake Lewis at its maximal extension (when the water level reached an elevation of 1200 ft. above sea level). The reconstructed puzzle will also give you the final coordinates to the cache!
