Mais qui est donc Barbari? C’est le géant local qui, chaque lundi et mardi gras, entraîne les « seringueux » à arroser d’eau toute personne non munie d’un masque ou d’une énorme seringue, n'épargnant que les vieillards, les infirmes et le médecin.  L'origine de cette coutume remonte, selon la tradition, à un différend ayant opposé au XIIe siècle les habitants aux moines du prieuré, qui voulaient détourner un ruisseau au profit de leur moulin.  La population, armée d'outres emplies d'eau, dissuada les moines de poursuivre leur projet, et la tradition resta. Les outres furent plus tard remplacées par des seringues.

Who is Barbari? It is the local giant who, on every Shrove Tuesday, leads the "seringueux" to spray with water every person not provided with a mask or with an enormous syringe, only sparing the old men, disabled persons and the doctors. The origin of this custom goes back in the XIIth century, according to the tradition, to a dispute between the inhabitants and the monks of the priory, who wanted to divert a brook for the benefit of their mill.The population, armed of water skins filled with water, dissuaded the monks to pursue their project, and the tradition stayed. Water skins were later replaced by syringes.
