Geocache Description:

This cache is hidden in honor of BLACK HISTORY MONTH and the "Father of BLACK HISTORY" Dr. Carter G. Woodson (1875 - 1950).

In 1926 Dr. Woodson begin the observance of BLACK HISTORY WEEK. The week was designed to focus on the achievements of BLACK AMERICANS.Today, the month of February has been designated a National Observance month, but BLACK HISTORY IS RECOGNIZED  365 DAYS EACH YEAR. 


The is hidden in Lakeland, the historical African - American community of Collrge Park, MD which was formed around 1890. Lakeland is one of several small African - American communities along the U.S. Rt1 corridor between Washington, D.C. and Laurel, MD.

Lakeland flourished in a segregated society which had the area's only high school for BLACK students. The school today ia a church.

The container only has room for the log sheet, a FTF award and Dr. Carter G. Woodson's BLACK HERITAGE stamps.Please take one ! BYOP.

Directions to GZ are: Travel along Rt.1 to Lakeland Road,Left onto Rhode Island Ave.and a Right onto Navahoe St. to GZ. You may continue on Lakeland to 54th Ave., turn Left and proceed to GZ. Please publish Feb.1.
