Vitenyédszentpál - St. Paul Church Traditional Geocache

Szentpál then Vitenyédszentpál afterwards Bagodvitenyéd - now it is part of Bagod - is located on the road 76, 11 km from Zalaegerszeg to the west, turning off the main road to direction of the Bagodvitenyéd.

This curch is found in the cemetery which is used today as well. Sanctuary of the cemetery chapel was a round church in the 13th century. They modified it in the 18th century and today it look like this.

During the Turkish occupation the village was destroyed and the church has ruined. In 1755, baroque nave and the tower was added.

The orientation of the church is turned during the rebuilding. From 1860, there were no more mass in the church and the roof was also collapsed.

At 2000, it has been restored and this is one of the major attraction in this small village nowadays.

Szentpál, majd Vitenyédszentpál, később Bagodvitenyéd - már Bagod település része - a 76-os úton Zalaegerszegtől 11km-re, nyugati irányban található. A kis templomot a főútról lekanyarodva Bagodvitenyéden keresztülhaladva az egykori Szentpálon, ma is használt temetőben találjuk.

A temetőkápolna szentélye XIII. századi körtemplom volt, amit a XVIII. században alakítottak át a ma is látható épületté.

A török időkben a falu elpusztult, temploma elhagyottá, romossá vált. 1755 körül elbontották a körtemplom szentélyét, barokk hajót és tornyot építettek hozzá. A körtemplom nyugati kapuját elfalazták, és így alakult ki a ma is látható templom. Az átépítés által a templom tájolása is megfordult.

1860-tól már nem miséztek ebben a templomban, és a századfordulóra a tetőzete is beomlott.

A 2000. évben helyreállították, és ma a kis település egyik jelentős látványossága.
