Le sanctuaire Notre dame d'Aric
Au moment du débarquement des troupes alliées en Normandie, en 1944, Le Cheylard devint le principal centre de la Résistance du Vivarais, en même temps que la préfecture provisoire de l’Ardèche. Alertés par l’activité intense du maquis, les Nazis prirent conscience du danger de ce foyer de résistance et décidèrent de l’anéantir. Sollicité par les paroissiens, le Chanoine Prosper CLAUZIER, curé du Cheylard, proposa de faire le vœu d’élever un monument à Notre Dame et de faire du premier vendredi de chaque mois, jusqu’en 1950, une journée de prière, si Le Cheylard et ses environs étaient préservés.
Dès la fin de la guerre, la paroisse s’empressa de construire sur la colline d’Aric une Chapelle dédiée à Notre Dame du Sacré Cœur. D’une élégante simplicité, la statue qui la surmonte est l’oeuvre de Monsieur BELLONI, émérite statutaire de la Basilique de Fourvière.

Lady of Aric Sanctuary
At the time of the disembarkation of the Allied troops in Normandy in 1944, Le Cheylard became the main center of the Resistance of the Vivarais, at the same time as the provisional prefecture of the Ardèche. Alerted by the intense activity of the maquis, the Nazis became aware of the danger of this center of resistance and decided to annihilate it. Solicited by the parishioners, Canon Prosper CLAUZIER, parish priest of the Cheylard, proposed vowing to erect a monument to Notre Dame and to make the first Friday of each month, until 1950, a day of prayer, if Le Cheylard And its surroundings were preserved.
At the end of the war, the parish quickly built a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of the Sacred Heart on the hill of Aric. Elegantly simple, the statue that surmounts it is the work of Mr. BELLONI, statutory emeritus of the Basilica of Fourvière.
