During this penumbral lunar eclipse, the Earth's main shadow does not cover the Moon. In fact, it barely takes a bite (actually, a tiny nibble in Manassas, Virginia) out of the Moon. As the Earth's shadow (umbra) misses the Moon during a penumbral lunar eclipse, there is nowhere on Earth where the Moon appears totally eclipsed during this event. If you're up for it, the eclipse is at its greatest at 7:43pm, Friday, February 10, 2017. Or you can wait for the next total lunar eclipse in January 2019... your call.
Everyone is welcome at the Mondays in Manassas event. Be sure to bring your appetite, your geocaching stories, and trackables to share.
