PRAÇA THEODOR AMSTAD

Considerado o introdutor do cooperativismo no Brasil, o padre Theodor Amstad nasceu em 9 de novembro de 1851, em Beckenried, no cantão Nidwalden, Suíça.
 
Veio para o Brasil em 1885, onde começou a prestar assistência econômica, social e cultural aos colonos do Rio Grande do Sul. Deu início ao movimento de fundação das associações de lavradores, cooperativas e caixas Raiffeisen.
 
Fundou na Colônia “Nova Petrópolis”, a primeira caixa de depósitos e empréstimos do sistema cooperativista do Brasil.
 
Muitas outras cooperativas foram criadas graças a sua iniciativa, fomentando o desenvolvimento da economia local e do agronegócio na região da Serra Gaúcha.

FATHER THEODOR AMSTAD SQUARE

Considered the initiator of cooperativism in Brazil, Father Theodor Amstad was born on November 9, 1851, in Beckenried, canton of Nidwalden, Switzerland.
 
He came to Brazil in 1885, where he began to provide economic, social and cultural assistance to the settlers of Rio Grande do Sul. He began the movement to found the associations of farmers, cooperatives and Raiffeisen banks.
 
He founded in the Colony of "Nova Petrópolis", the first bank of savings and loans of the cooperative system of Brazil.
 
Many other cooperatives were created thanks to his initiative, fomenting the development of the local economy and agribusiness in the region of Serra Gaúcha.
