Ye Ole Survey Monuments (GC45CC) is a travelling geocache that is owned by outforthehunt. The cache moves around the country and you could be looking for a specific survey monument, pillar, surface block, rivet or bolt. Unlike conventional geocaches, with this cache you need to record the co-ordinates you find and make a note of them on your log. You can also add pictures and any other details you want.
I'd like to celebrate by going back in time to when I was 14 and hiked Malvern as a Cadet and my first time discovering Ordinance Survey Pillars, and then 10 years ago when I hiked Malvern again and re-discovered the Trig Point, and now a third trip back by hosting this event there to celebrate the YOSM with cake and a brew and socialise with others and one of my all time favourite views.
When: Saturday 25th March 2017
What Time: 12:00pm -13:30pm
Where: Malvern Beacon
Why: To visit one the Malvern Beacon and enjoy some cake and have a brew! There are nearly 70 geocaches within a 2 mile radius of the beacon!
I aim to arrive early into the area and trolley up a gazebo, table and hot water urn about 11am, and give the urn plenty of time to heat up ready for brews. Also why not pop along and attend for a group photo at 12:30pm.
You can arrive either by car and park at one of the many nearby car parks available, please note that most of these are chargeable, one is listed in additional waypoints. Also Great Malvern Train station is served by London Midland who operate services to Birmingham New Street via Worcester and Hereford every hour and also some services to Birmingham Snow Hill via Kidderminster and Stourbridge Junction. Great Western Railway operate a roughly hourly service to London Paddington via the Cotswold Line and Oxford (some of which run to/from Hereford) and every two hours to Bristol Temple Meads via Gloucester.
Please understand it is a 2 mile walk from Train Station to the Beacon. Attached is an image of the suggested route.
The terrain is steep and rough underfoot in places. Good footwear is needed and weather on the top of the Beacon may be significantly different to that experienced in the town. As with all high areas you should note that the weather & winds can change quickly and you should take appropriate clothing.
When the weather is clear you will see outstanding views of Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Gloucestershire and perhaps even further.
