A circular trail of 11 caches (approx 3 miles long) on the outskirts of Uffculme village with beautiful views in places. Please bring a pen and tweezers (to extract the log books) to complete the trail! Cacher's have advised that the series can be completed in about 2 hours.
A friend of ours recommended this area to place a trail and when we explored it, we thought we wanted to share it with others..... There is an uphill walk from Uffculme village (which ever way you choose to complete the series). We would recommend completing it in series order, to enable you to make the most from the lovely views (otherwise you may have your back to the beautiful scenery around you). The trail does involve walking on some roads so please take care of geo-kids and geo-hounds when on the roads. They are however mainly quiet roads, but please do still be vigilant. There is parking available near cache 5 if you want to avoid the uphill stretch between cache 3 and 4. There are also 2 stiles to negotiate which seem to be 'dog friendly' as gaps for dogs to pass through (unless they are large!). Due to the incline, un-made paths some parts of this trail would not be suitable for pushchairs / wheelchair users or anyone who can not manage uneven terrain. A few of the caches are along roadsides so wheelchair users may be able to be present but would need assistance reaching these caches. (caches 1,2, 7,8,9,10,11) The trail takes you out of Uffculme along the road to 'Ashill'. Within approx half a mile of Uffculme, there is a gateway which you will need to go through to continue the trail which leads you across a farmers field into Gaddon Woods. (cache 3 is located in the gateway to indicate which one to take). The caches are placed along the public footpaths through Gaddon Woods, towards Smithencott and then returning back towards Uffculme. It can be very wet / muddy underfoot so walking boots / Wellies are advised after rain. (es pecially between caches 6 and7) We hope you enjoy this beautiful spot. Please replace all caches as found to ensure they aren't found by 'muggles' and destroyed. We have spent a lot of time hand making some of these caches, so please be gently with them to ensure they stay in good condition for as long as possible. We set this trail with our geo- kids in tow (they helped make the caches too). Hopefully the varied caches will hold the children's attention whilst the adults enjoy the views. A nice family series if your children like walking. We look forward to reading your logs - let us know what you think of the walk / caches / views! The series has been published on my birthday too 😀 Happy Caching Folks....... To locate cache 1: From Magelake car park turn right out of the car park. The first cache is located a very short walk from the car park. You are looking for a nano cache. This is a very busy road so please be careful and keep a close eye on geo-hounds / geo-kids to avoid any accidents. WELL DONE TO 'HEARTRADIO' FOR FTF 😀
