President Elect TB Hotel - Video Game Series South Traditional Cache

RetiredGuy: Farewell Florida

Dear Fellow Geocachers,

In 2011, I created the Video Game Classic Series South to celebrate video games from the 1970’s and 1980’s. The series grew to having 50 caches with container, location, or puzzle connected to the classic video games. Having almost all of the containers be themed meant that maintaining them has been difficult but well worth it. The series has had 5700 cache finds by 1100 different geocachers. I have also maintained a leaderboard of cachers’ progress in the series, now with fourteen cachers having found all 50 caches.

In March of 2020, my wife and I moved back to Boston to be near our first grandchild and I can no longer maintain the caches. I will be archiving them when they go missing or have serious issues. While you can still access the leaderboard by clicking on this message, all 50 caches will no longer be available to find.

I deeply enjoyed the Florida geocaching community. Should you make it to Boston, feel free to look up my caches or me while you are in the area.
Best regards and keep on cachin’
Doug

Geocache Description:

*** The area has tree clearing being done. The ammo can has been removed and there is a preform tube ziptied to a tree branch until they finish.***

You are looking for a very large, double bobbleheaded container not far off the path. The container is large enough for trackables, small trinkets, and anything else you would like to bring. This cache also doubles as a Travel Bug Hotel.

President Elect was a turn-based, political simulation game, first released by Strategic Simulations, Inc. in 1981 and is believed to be the first political computer game published.

President Elect gave the player the ability to play as various real historical, potential historical, or completely fictional Presidential candidates during the Presidential campaigns from 1960 to 1984 (most versions also included the 1988 campaign). Players were given the option of playing a "Historical" or "Ahistorical" scenario for each of the given years. Under the "Historical" option, the candidates, as well as economic and foreign policy conditions, and the status of the incumbent, were fixed. During an "Ahistorical" session, all those variables could be determined by the player (for example, the player could choose a 1984 race between an incumbent Republican President Ronald Reagan, versus a Democratic Senator Edward M. Kennedy, in the midst of an unpopular war and an economic boom). Alternatively, players could select the option of creating a fictional Presidential candidate, through the selection of various political, personal, and geographic attributes (somewhat in the manner of creating an RPG player character). In addition, there was the option of selecting an "Ahistorical" set of candidates within the otherwise "Historical" conditions of the selected year. The game came preset with not only all the major candidates of the elections covered by the span of the game, but also a number of hypothetical candidates from across the time frame, such as Jerry Brown, George Romney, Gary Hart, and Howard Baker.
