Geocache Description:

Can you ascend 45 meters in under three minutes? This pipeline challenge is here for you!

For this cache you will need several things:

  • An USB power pack, to power a little computer needed to complete this task. See this image for how the connector to be connected to looks like.
  • Proper shoes. No thongs, no high heels, no slippery souls.
  • Relative nice weather. Don't do it when it rains as the surface might be slippery.
  • Be able to press yourself physically. If you have heart problems, think about it twice. If you have breathing problems, think about it twice. If you have blood pressure problems, think about it twice. If you have any reason to suspect you shouldn't do it, don't. You will be out of breath, your heart will be pounding, you will curse my existence. Nobody will think less of you if you don't do it.
  • Water and something to eat to refuel yourself afterwards. It's less than three minutes but I spend 15 minutes at the end to recover.

The instructions are as follows:

  • Park at PARK1 or PARK2, enjoy the walk to the bridge at the published coordinates.
  • When passing the Prices Cave at CAVE, enjoy the overwhelming feeling for a moment. You'll be back here.
  • When you are at the bridge, go to HIDE1, here is the first physical waypoint. Behind the rocks is a container, inside the container is a smaller container with a wire coming out of it. Hook up your power pack, it should give you an "Hello World" on the screen. After that it will start a countdown timer from 180 seconds to zero seconds and a altitude measurement from 45 meters to zero. Don't worry yet, this is just a test to see if it works. If it doesn't work, please let me know and I'll check things out.
  • Go to START1, which is the start of the climb. Be careful as the sticks and leaves on the pipeline can be slippery.

This show what you are up to, this is the elevation profile:

53 meters up in 200 meters forward! There is a bridge halfway at BRIDG2 which you need to cross. At EINDE1 the coordinates will be released to you, if you are fast enough!

This is your moment to shine. Do your last stretches, have a sip of water, take a deep breath and hook up the small container again. And off you go until you reach an altitude of 45 meters higher than where you are now! Up up and up... and through the little bridge... and more up up and up. Catch your breath if needed, give your legs some rest but then go go go again... The last meters are the hardest, but you can do it!

There are two possible outcomes here:

  1. You didn't make it. The slope is too steep. The path is too long. Your legs didn't make it. You ran out of breath. The man with the hammer. After 180 seconds the timer counted down to zero and locked up. But you're broken, you're done, you have enough of it, never again, who thought this was a good idea, not fair Dutchman, you can live with a DNF. But you tried, and that is the most important part.
  2. You made it! The slope was steep. The path was long. Your legs nearly didn't make it. You ran out of breath but carried on it. The man with the hammer was evaded. Before the timer reached zero you had climbed the required 45 meters and gotten the coordinates. You're euphoric, you did it, oh yeah, eat that Dutchman, the smiley is yours.
When the altitude has changed 45 meters, the coordinates of the final location will be displayed on the screen.

Either way, you need a rest, a drink and some food. After ten or so minutes you will have recovered enough to walk back and find the container.

P.S. Initially the plan was to put the container on the way down, but that plan got screwed when the Pole Vaulting cache got fixed up. Do you remember the Prices Cave? Expect some more climbing!red herring
