Upea Irnijärven rantahietikko sijaitsee ikivanhan kauppa- ja kulkureitin varrella. Muinaisina aikoina liikuttiin veneillä ja kulkijoita täällä riitti, sillä tämä Iijoen vesireitti yhdisti toisiinsa Pohjanlahden ja Jäämeren vilkkaat asutukset. Kauppaa käytiin ja huonoina aikoina osapuolet kulkivat ryöstö- ja kostoretkillään näiden maisemien kautta.
Kero (Iso- ja Pikkukero) sekä Irnijärvi ovat Iijoen vesistöön kuuluvia matalia ja säännösteltyjä järviä lähellä Kuusamon etelärajaa. Järvet ovat suosittuja vetouistelujärviä, joissa ui mm. taimenta ja siikaa runsain mitoin.
Lähistön nähtävyyksistä kannattaa muistaa Kuusamon suurpetokeskus parin kilometrin päässä viitostieltä, Iso-Keron rantamailla. Tutustumisen arvoinen on myös lähistöllä sijaitseva Kylmäluoman leirintäalue kauniine maisemineen. Kyläluomassakin vapakalastaja pääsee saaliin makuun. Lähistöltä löytyy myös rotkomainen, villi ja kaunis Julma Ölkky, erämaajärvi, jonka pystysuorat rantakalliot kohoavat jopa 50 m korkeuteen veden ylle ja joka on syvimmillään 42 m syvä.
The gorgeous Irnijärvi beach is situated along the ancient trade and travel route. In ancient times people moved around with boats and there were plenty of people on the move, because this water route connected the Arctic Ocean and the Gulf of Bothnia to each other. People traded and in bad times different parties went through these lands on raids and reprisals.
Kero (Iso-Kero and Pikku-Kero) and Irnijärvi are shallow and regulated lakes in the Iijoki river system and it is located near the southern municipal border of Kuusamo.The lakes are popular for trolling and they have, among others, plenty of trout and whitefish.
From the nearby attractions one should remember Kuusamon suurpetokeskus (“Kuusamo large predator centre”) on the banks of Iso-Kero a couple of kilometres from round number 5. The Kylmäluoma camping site is also worth a visit with its beautiful scenery. In Kylmäluoma a rod fisher also can get a taste of catching fish. Nearby one can also find a gorge like, wild and beautiful Julma Ölkky, a wilderness lake, that has the depth of 42 metres with vertical cliffs soaring up to 50 metres above the water.
