Geocache Description:

To the north, about 20 minutes drive from the center of the capital of Georgia - Tbilisi, near a large artificial lake "Tbilisi sea", there is the „History of Georgia“ monument. By local people it is often called "Stonehenge". It is located on a hilltop with a wonderful views over the city and especially the "sea".

The massive sculptural artwork is about 30m high. It consists of a bunch of tall vertical columns with horizontal columns on top of those. They are paneled with metal panels with reliefs.

The top two-thirds of the columns feature important figures from Georgian history--kings, queens, martyrs, heroes, etc.

The bottom level depicts stories from the life of Christ.

Part of the memorial is also a small church.

Construction was started in 1985, designed by Georgian sculptor Zurab Konstantines dze Tsereteli. The work is partially incomplete and unfortunately it looks like that in the near future nothing will change.

The location is not too popular a place for locals and only a few Georgians saw it up close. But I would still highly recommend a visit here. It is worth visiting just because of the wonderful landscape of the surrounding area.

There is minimal information about the memorial. If someone would have more information about it, can you send me the e-mail over my the profile. I like to include them in the listing.
