Le «Jardin de l’eau » se trouve en plein cœur du bourg de Saint-Germain-en-Coglès, à la confluence des ruisseaux de la Vollerie et de la Haute-Bressaye.

Les zones humides
Ces milieux sont produits par l’accumulation de précipitations répétées sur des sols imperméables ou mal drainés. Des étendues d’eau peu profondes se forment dans des dépressions de terrain, sur les rivages des lacs, des fleuves ou des océans. Elles peuvent aussi être constituées par le bras mort d’un cours d’eau. Le dépôt d’alluvions, qui ralentit le cours des fleuves et des rivières, peut aussi donner naissance à la formation de milieux marécageux.
Wetlands
These media are produced by the accumulation of repeated rainfall on impermeable soils or poorly drained. Shallow bodies of water form in low-lying areas on the shores of lakes, rivers or oceans. They can also be made by the dead arm of a watercourse. The alluvial deposit, which slows the flow of rivers and streams, can also give rise to the formation of marshy areas.
L'évolution dans le temps et dans l’espace
Au cours du temps, les zones humides finissent naturellement par disparaître, sous l’effet du comblement progressif et de l’installation successive de peuplements végétaux. Ainsi, l’étang qui se forme initialement est une étendue d’eau claire, dépourvue de végétation sur ses rives. Progressivement, la dégradation de déchets végétaux ou animaux s’accumulent et sont dégradés par des bactéries, enrichissant l’eau et les berges en éléments nutritifs. Ces premiers éléments permettent la vie des algues, qui s’accumulent à leur tour et enrichissent encore le milieu.
Des plantes aquatiques émergent progressivement de l’eau, et l’enchevêtrement de leurs racines favorise l’accumulation des débris végétaux et la formation d’un sol riche. C’est la phase d’envasement ou atterrissement.
Le marais étend progressivement son emprise, la dépression de terrain se comblant peu à peu sous l’effet de l’accumulation de débris. Il finit par disparaître complètement, laissant un sol plat mais saturé en eau, caractérisé par la présence de Carex.
A la fin de cette phase d’évolution, le milieu est profondément transformé. Selon les cas, le terrain forme une tourbière ou un bois de feuillus, dans lequel s’établissent des plantes arborescentes qui affectionnent particulièrement l’eau (saules, aulnes, peupliers).
The evolution in time and space
Over time, wetlands naturally eventually disappear under the effect of the progressive filling and the subsequent installation of plant communities. Thus, the pond that initially forms is a clear body of water, no vegetation on its banks. Gradually, the degradation of plant or animal waste accumulate and are degraded by bacteria, enriching the water and the banks in nutrients. These first elements allow the lives of algae that accumulate in their turn and still enrich the environment.
Aquatic plants gradually emerge from the water, and the tangle of roots promotes the accumulation of plant debris and the formation of a rich soil. This is the siltation or landing phase.
The marsh is gradually extending its influence, the field of depression fills gradually as a result of the accumulation of debris. He eventually disappear completely, leaving a flat surface but saturated with water, characterized by the presence of Carex.
At the end of this phase of evolution, the environment has changed dramatically. Where appropriate, the ground form a bog or hardwood, in which establish arboreal plants which are particularly fond of water (willows, alders, poplars).
