Geocache Description:

This is a small micro. BYOP

Winthrop Cemetery is 3 miles west of Deep River, CT. It is the oldest cemetery in Deep River and dates back to 1750 when Job Bulkeley was buried. It is 4 miles west of Deep River center, on the north side of Route 80. It was originally known as the Oyster River Quarter of Old Saybrook. The earliest engraved stone is of 12 yo Samuel Chalker, 1/23/1753. There are 30 veterans and 8 Revolutionary soldiers buried in this cemetery. Stealth and respect are required for the visitors and residents. This cemetery is not available from dusk to dawn. There is no need to manipulate gravestones, disassemble stone walls or otherwise alter topography.
