Mount Hawke Methodist Church, Fore Street, is situated in the middle of the village. It has very few members but attempts to keep the chapel open. Recent plans have seen all the pews removed and replaced with chairs that can be stacked to allow the main chapel to be used for other activities, such as Flower Festivals, Arts and crafts exhibitions etc and it is used every week for karate. The Sunday school room has been refurbished and re-named the Green Room as access is available to the Millennium Green at the back. This room is used every weekday by the Pre-school and Coffee mornings every Saturday which are well attended by village people who use it as a meeting place with friends.
5 years ago this small village church was in danger of closure as it was only used for about 6 hours a month and numbers were dwindling, no one cared whether it stayed open or closed. With the arrival of the new minister the congregation began seeking for the future.
The church wanted a new kitchen in the church hall which would cost more money than it had, a vision that would provide a centre for the community which would cost more than they could ever dream. 2 years later the congregation put forward a 10 year plan for the future which would see the whole building modernised into an amazing community space to be used by all.
The Pre-Schoolers put in £8,000 so that they would have somewhere to meet and Phase 1 was ready to go. Walls were knocked down, 3 new toilets installed, a brand new kitchen, entrance to the Millennium Green, and in less than 12 months the Pre-school were using the premises 5 days a week. This project was assisted by grants and fund raisers meaning all the money was there just when it was needed.
Phase 2 is now well under way which involves pews being removed, a new floor in the sanctuary area, a new kitchen in the front foyer and at least one toilet in the side building at the front of the church so that it can be independent of the rest of the building. The church is now open 7 days a week and the chuch is now seeking fresh ways of serving its community

The path to the final can get a little muddy, so I suggest good footwear.
There are a number of stiles to clamber over, and the area sometimes contains livestock so Please control your dogs!
There isn't any parking at the listed location outside the church - however it is possible to find some in the village nearby. Please do not obstruct drives or roads when parking.
