Welcome to the Port Rowan Wetlands trail. Originally this site was the former Port Rowan Sewage Lagoons which were created in 1971 in order to naturally treat, store and dispose of wastewater from the village of Port Rowan. When the mechanical treatment facility was built across the road and came on line in March 2012, the ponds were no longer needed. This allowed for the transformation of the lagoons into a functional wetland, with a corridor leading to Lake Erie. Normally the lagoons would have been filled in and the lands restored back to agricultural purposes, but due to the sensitivity of the surrounding ecosystems, the creation of these wetlands would be more beneficial for the local wildlife, ecosystems and community.
You are looking for a hidden and camoed whizbang.
