Geocache Description:

CACHE IS NOT AT THE POSTED COORDINATES! Carefully consider your parking and put-in and take-out options. DO NOT TRESPASS OR CROSS PRIVATE PROPERTY! Also, consider joining a floatilla – kayak caching with a buddy is always more fun and safer. Wear your life vest. Fasten your safety belts. And eat your vegetables.

X Marks the spot is the story of a map of a map. Or is that a map on the map? Welcome to NoVAGO’s paddle geo-art. This trail of 53 caches will take you along a serene stretch of the Occoquan River, where your most common company promises to be ospreys, herons and fish.

This cache is a bit different, it is clear don’t you see? We’ve made a letterbox with many stars – yippee!

So how you’ll get there will require some prose, but follow along and the cache will be right below your nose.

To get to the center of X just keep on drifting downstream, Keeping a look out for a giant rock arising as though from a dream,

Sail to about a quarter of a decimal degree - both north and west, you I know that round numbers are best

From there a giant rock is to starboard, that much is clear. Can you reach the cache from the boat? Oh no I fear.

For you see, this is a letterbox hidden by a terrain nut, who thinks just paddling all day is too much time on your butt.

So climb on out and ponder the challenge in front, and start making your way up, scramble and grunt.

To find my stash there’s some things you should know, its an ammo can that’s well protected from snow.

You’ll have to find a little cave and in a nook, is the pirate’s treasure, some swag and a book.

Most of this rock is quite steep and quite sheer - but there's only one hidey hole - toward the side it's quite clear.

How far should you go due south from the shore? 50, 60, 70 feet, certainly no more.

How do you get there? Be careful, I implore! Because a fall from here will leave you bruised up and sore.

Your friends still in boats will be able to laugh and to see, as you search all around, cursing my name with some glee.

My only regret is that I couldn’t find a spot higher, For a cache with a Terrain 7 is what I desire.

There’s just one thing that left that I ask, Please leave the stamp as you head back to your yak.

If you were to attempt the full geo-art in one trip you are in for a LONG paddle. And some complex logistics. Please carefully prepare and plan your launch and take-out points. Feel free to reach out to the CO if you have questions or want to bounce ideas.
