Arracourt est une commune française située dans le département de Meurthe-et-Moselle en région Grand Est.

ARRACOURT : la chapelle et les militaires

 1 - La bataille de chars Du 18 au 29 septembre 1944, eut lieu sur le site d'Arracourt une bataille de chars entre les forces blindées américaines et les Panzers allemands.
La 5è Panzer Armée avait comme objectif la capture de Lunéville et la destruction de la tête de pont du XIIè Corps d'Armée américain au niveau de la Moselle à Dieulouard.
Bénéficiant d'une supériorité en troupes et en matériel blindé, les Allemands espèrent une victoire rapide contre la 4è division blindée.
La 4e DB américaine, qui bénéficiait d'un meilleur entraînement, parvient à mettre en échec deux brigades de Panzer et les éléments de deux divisions.
Un tank Sherman M4, désormais transformé en monument, est visible dans le village.
 1 - La bataille de chars It was situated in the district of Arracourt. It took place from September 18th to September 29th 1944.
There, the American armoured corps were brought face to face with the German Panzer.
The 5th Panzer Army had an objective which was the capture of Lunéville as well as the destruction of the 12th American army corps' bridgehead on the level with the Moselle at Dieulouard.
The Germans had the advantage of a higher number of men as well as a higher armoured equipment, therefore, they hoped in a quick victory against the 4th armoured division.
The 4th American armoured division had a better training and they succeeded in beating two brigades of Panzer and two divisions.
A Sherman M4 tank was transformed into a monument. It is to be seen in the village of Arracourt.

3 - La chapelle Notre-Dame de Pitié À l'intérieur, on peut admirer un autel du XVIIIè siècle en bois sculpté
et une Piéta reconnue monument historique en bois sculpté du XVIè siècle.
C'est une statue en bois polychrome d'une hauteur de 62 cm

3 - Notre-Dame de Pitié Chapel In the foreground, we can see the pool. It is not far from the place where the present Sherman M4 tank stands.
In the chapel, we can admire an 18th century altar made of sculpted wood.
There is also a Piéta recognized as an historical monument.
It is made in a 16th century polychrome piece of wood. It is 62 cm high.

4 - La gendarmerie Dans une période tendue d'avant-guerre latente en 1912, dans la nuit du 26 au 27 novembre, suite à une erreur du receveur des Postes, les hommes du canton se sont mobilisés sous les ordres du brigadier Blion (voir photos jointes) et sont partis à pied à Lunéville, St Nicolas et Nancy.

Après un court temps de réflexion avec l'aide de la presse, l'événement fut transformé en manifestation de zèle patriotique...
Lors de la Grande Guerre 14 18, la gendarmerie à l'entrée du village fut épargnée.
En 1871, c'était la première localité française de la frontière, sur la route de Moyenvic.
Depuis 2015 le canton d'Arracourt et celui de Baccarat ont fusionné.
Suite au projet de réorganisation de la gendarmerie, la brigade d'Arracourt vient de fermer.
Son bâtiment, à l’entrée de l’agglomération, appartient au Conseil Départemental. Il ne devrait pas rester vacant mais trouver une autre affectation...

4 - The gendarmerie In a strained period of time before the second world war during the night of November 28th to 29th and because of a mistake made by the postmaster, the men of the administrative district gathered together at Brigadier Blion's disposal - see photos- and walked as far as Lunéville, Saint-Nicolas and Nancy.
After a while, with the assistance of the newspapers, the event was transformed into a patriotic demonstration.
During the first world war, the constabulary was safe.
After 1871, Arracourt was the French town of the frontier on the way to Moyenvic.
Both districts, the district of Arracourt and that of Baccarat merged in 2015.
Following the project of reorganization of the constabulary, Arracourt brigade just closed.
Its building, situated at the beginning of the village, belongs to the Conseil Départemental. It shouldn't remain vacant. A new assignment is to be found.
