Ho deciso di posizionare una geocache in uno dei punti più importanti della storia della Repubblica di San Marino. E' una cache molto semplice con a fianco una camminata di 5 minuti che porta in uno splendido punto panoramico sulla Valmarecchia.
I decided to place a geocache here because it's one of the most importante place for the history of the Republic of San Marino. It's very easy and if you want there is a 5 minute walk to a beautiful panoramic view of the Valmarecchia.

In questo luogo, secondo antica e consolidata tradizione, visse da eremita il dalmata Marino, dopo aver lasciato Rimini dove lavorava come tagliatore di pietra nei pressi del porto. Il luogo è detto Baldasserona e conserva da tempo immemorabile una grotta venerata dai sammarinesi come "Sacello del Santo": cioè il primo spazio nel quale San Marino si rifugiò. La solitudine di questo masso boscoso, le penitenze di una vita austera, il tempo dedicato alla preghiera, hanno sicuramente temprato lo spirito del Santo fino a renderlo convincente annunciatore del Vangelo e testimone di Dio verso i tanti pellegrini che salivano questi monti per incontrarlo e ricevere sostegno e incoraggiamento, richiamati dalla sua fama. Con un piccolo nucleo di fedeli Marino si trasferì poi sulla sommità del Monte Titano, ricevuto in dono dalla matrona Felicissima. Ordinato diacono dal Vescovo di Rimini Gaudenzio, riunì una comunità civile e cristiana, primo nucleo di quella che diventerà nel tempo la Repubblica di San Marino.

Legend narrates that this is where the Dalmatian Hermit Marinus lived after coming from Rimini where he had worked as a stone-cutter near the harbour. The locality called Baldasserona, has for centuries been known as the site of a cave it venerated by the people of San Marino as the "Sacellum of Saint Marinus" - the first place where Saint Marino took refuge. The loneliness of this woodland, the penitence of an austere life and the time dedicated to prayer undoubtedly fortified the saint's spirit making him a convinced announcer of the Gospel and God's witness for the many pilgrims who climbed the mountain side to meet him and receive his support and encouragement, attracted by his repute for saintliness. Later on, together with a small group of followers, Marinus moved to the top of Mount Titano, donated to him by the matron Felicissima. After being ordained a deacon by the Bishop of Rimini Gaudenzio, he established a civil and christian community, the first nucleus of what was gradually to become the free Republic of San Marino.
