These caches are intended to be very simple and straightforward on a route suitable for parents with young children on foot or bicycle.
The community route runs close to the road, but is shielded by banks and trees for much of its length and has become a very popular walking and cycling route. It forms part of the National Cycle Network and links to the Treforest Community Route and the Taff Trail (via Upper Boat). It is also the junction of cycle routes from London to Fishguard (NCN4) and Holyhead to Cardiff (NCN8) and has many access points from roads and footpaths along the way.
The community route was built with the wide variety of flora and fauna very much taken into account. £190,000 was spent on building three bridges over the bypass for dormice and ponds were built for newts, toads and slow worms. Other species provided for include badgers, bats and marsh fritillary butterflies. The marshy grassland and wild flowers have also been preserved all of which makes for some attractive scenery along the length of the route.
