Geocache Description:

A sojourn is simply a temporary stay during your travels.  Inspired by this idea, we have decided to place caches throughout the Island (and eventually even father) celebrating any interesting location that we might find.

Miller Island Graveyard is the eighth of this series.  While visiting family in Hampton, we took part in many of the traditional Newfoundland activities such as Cod Jigging and Mussel Picking. On the last full day of our visit, we stopped on Miller's Island for a Boil Up and discovered a hidden graveyard from 1924 almost buried by the surrounding forest. According to a local source, all those found in this cemetery died of TB and were buried on this island to avoid contaminating the local water supplies with this horrible disease. Now trees have grown up through the graves and offer a unique find for those that like to explore.

The cache itself is a homemade micro container hidden in a tree above one of the graves.  It contains only a log book, there is no room for a pencil so please bring your own. The cache should be an easy find once you are there - the challenge is getting to the site (a boat ride is required).  In addition, make certain you load your GPS or cell phone before heading to the area; there is no cell service in the area.

As always, once you find it, make sure that you spend some time enjoying this scenic area. Happy Hunting!
