St Michael's Monkton Combe stands on the site of a Norman church, but one which was knocked down and rebuilt before being reopened in 1865. The thing that really makes this church stand out for us is that it hosts the grave of Henry John "Harry" Patch who was the last surviving combatant of the first World War from any country up to his death in 2009. He was born and raised up the hill in Combe Down.
(Mr O writes....) I've cycled past this church many times without knowing that he was buried there before Mrs O bought me his biography for my birthday a couple of years ago. I'd thoroughly recommend looking into his history as it's quite a story.
To find the cache you'll first need to go to his grave at the posted co-ordinates - it's the one with the poppies so really stands out quite well. At what date in December did Harry's father William John die? Call that AB. And what age was William John when he died? Call that CD.
The cache itself can then be found at N51 21.ADC W2 19.(C-1)CC
